The project involved the
construction of a 20,000 sf corrosion control aircraft maintenance
facility that included a 33-foot high bay area for helicopter
maintenance, a low bay area for repair of composite (non-metallic)
parts, a paint mixing booth, a paint booth, and miscellaneous offices
and work spaces. An operable wall system divided the hangar into two
equal bays so that two aircraft could be worked on simultaneously. The
hangar doors swung out, pivoting on a single hinge and rolling on a
fixed-radius rail embedded in the concrete. The hangar doors acted as
supply air plenums, distributing air from four 100,000 cfm roof-top
air-handling units. The air was pushed through the high bay toward the
opposite wall where the paint fumes and dust were filtered prior to
being exhausted.
