Training in Foreign Lands at Home

Building to Improve Training for our Troops

Fort Riley is home to the 1st Infantry Division and over 92,000 acres of land devoted to training.

Project Details

To help prepare and train our ground troops for the environment they may experience in the Middle East, we constructed the second phase of the Combined Arms Collective Training Facility that provides specialized urban assault training. The grounds and buildings mimic the conditions troops may be exposed to in the Middle East with a total of 26 training structures. The scope of the buildings are vastly diverse, some are completely finished while others are primitive without any finishes. Supporting facilities include an After Action Review Building for debriefing after tactical exercises and a Range Instructional Building.

A live fire shoothouse was constructed with a catwalk allowing for observation of training. Bullet absorbing concrete blocks that are 3 foot cubes provide an intricate maze of hallways with open areas throughout where automated targets provide for live-fire shooting scenarios.

A two-story urban offense/defense building includes several blowout windows and doors allowing for tactical clearing of a building. The building also includes an accessible room and basement exit tunnel.

An urban assault course provides various structures at Ranges 4, 5, and 52. At Range 4 we also built a tunnel system that allows engagement training while in confined spaces.
