Supporting our American Warfighter

Building to Support Readiness

Assault Battalion Maintenance Hangar's Logo

The Assault Battalion is one of five battalions that form the 4th Infantry Division’s 4th Combat Aviation Brigade moving to Fort Carson. The Assault Battalion supports the brigade by performing air assault and air movement operations. The new facility will support 385 battalion leaders and soldiers split into four companies. Companies Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie will have a fleet of 30 Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopters. The Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility tactical transport helicopter with capability for eleven combat-equipped troops with a range of 320 nautical miles. The Black Hawk serves our troops in the most extreme conditions found on earth.

Project Details

The facility contains a 6-bay 44,600 square foot high-bay hangar for aviation maintenance and storage with supporting spaces for allied maintenance workshops and parts storage. The two-story administrative portion of the facility contains flight planning and operations, briefing rooms, offices, company operations, and company readiness storage. Fire suppression systems will include wet pipe in the administrative areas, dry pipe in the exterior storage areas, and pre-action and high expansion foam in the hangar bays. Special foundations will be used due to the location’s expansive and corrosive soil. Also included is the construction of 92,667 square yards of concrete airfield paving and the demolition of six buildings located along the airfield.

Sustainability

This project is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council with a goal of achieving LEED® Silver certification upon construction completion.
